Welcome to Preschool
Lampstand Preschool was created out of a desire to give families in our community a place where their preschoolers can grow and thrive. We at Lampstand Preschool believe that each child deserves an enriching environment to learn, grow & begin to shine their light in the world! We offer the fundamental elements associated with an early learning center as well as the foundation of faith-based teachings rooted in our identity in Christ. (Psalm 139: 13-14)
Who We Are
With our long history here at Lampstand Church of growing in the grace God has made available to us and proclaiming the Gospel message to others, it was a natural step to open a school for the "little lights" in our community!
We know these are the years children experience the fastest physical, mental, social, and emotional growth. We do not take lightly the responsibility of preparing your child for their future. Allow us to come alongside you in setting your child up for success: Spiritually, Socially, Physically, Creatively & Academically.
Fall '24-'25 Enrollment is Open
If you have a little one that will be 3 or 4 years old on or before September 1, 2024, we invite you to join our preschool family! We have 15 spaces in each class (3s and 4s classes) that will be filled on a first come first served basis. Registration may be completed by submitting a Registration Packet along with the Registration Fee. Registration Packets are also available for pick up at Lampstand Church Tuesday - Friday 8:30 - 2:30.
MEET OUR TEAM
Chris Gadberry Director Chris has always had a passion for serving people for as long as she can remember. That passion has drawn her to serve God in many ways throughout her life. From volunteering with her church's VBS to serving on many, many Great Banquet and Awakening teams & committees to outreach ministries here in Decatur. These all bring so much joy to her life, but her greatest joy comes from spending time with her husband Mark, their 5 children, and 6 grandchildren. Chris is excited for this new journey God has called her to as she serves here at Lampstand Preschool! Watching the lights of these littles as they learn and grow is the best blessing she could receive.

Vanessa Kelson Preschool Teacher Vanessa taught in Decatur Public Schools from 2015-2023, where she has had the privilege of teaching Kindergarten, Second, and Third grades. Vanessa is excited to follow Jesus’s call into teaching Preschool. She is definitley a huge asset to our preschool having her M.Ed. in Foundations of Education from Antioch University. We are blessed to have her join our team! Vanessa married her husband in 2017 and they have an adorable Yorkie-poo puppy named Sofie Jo. She enjoys traveling, spending time with family, DIY projects, and crafting. She is looking forward to meeting you and working alongside you to help your child grow. |
Pam Haycraft Director of Christian Education & Congregational Life Pam loves the Word of God, seeing Holy Spirit move & hanging out with kiddos--because, they're remarkably honest and naturally inquisitive! With this passion and love for children & the Word of God, Pam is sure to make new little friends as she works alongside Pastor Russell in leading Chapel Time each week! |

How do I register my child?
You may register your child by completing and submitting a Registration Packet along with the Registration Fee. The Registration Packet can be obtained by:

Once you have completed the registration packet, you are welcome to email it to our preschool office or drop it by Lampstand Church.
What are the days/hours that my child will attend class?
Lampstand Preschool follows the Mt. Zion School calendar closely as it relates to holidays/breaks. A complete calendar will be available soon. We have a separate class for the 3-year-old children and a class for the 4-year-old children.
The 3s Class meets Thursday & Friday each week - from 8:30-11:30.
The 4s Class meets Monday - Wednesday each week - from 8:30-11:30.
What is the cost of Lampstand Preschool?
Registration Fee: $75/Year per Child
Volunteer Program:
3s Class - $110/month for 9.5 months per child
4s Class - $150/month for 9.5 months per child
Non-Volunteer Program:
3s Class - $135/month for 9.5 months per child
4s Class - $185/month for 9.5 months per child
Multi-Child Discount: Discounts given for multiple children enrolled in a single school year. Contact our office for details. 217.542.5436.

Will I be able to be involved in my child's classroom?
Our preschool is designed for parents and families who would like to take an active role in their child's education. With our "Volunteer Program" option a parent (or family member) will assist the teacher approximately 1-2 times each month. With this program, there is a reduction in tuition due to the savings experienced by the preschool as there is no need for an additional paid teaching assistant.
Am I required to volunteer in my child's classroom?
We understand that volunteering in your child's class is not always an option for everyone. For this reason, we have an additional "Non-Volunteer Program". This program does have a slightly higher rate due to the added expense incurred the preschool in the need for an additional paid teaching assistant.
Will there be a background check performed on those working with my child?
Absolutely! We do not take the safety of our children lightly and require that our teacher(s), Lampstand Church staff, & anyone volunteering in the classroom submit to a thorough background check.
